Mat 5:38 "You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' Mat 5:39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. Mat 5:40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. Mat 5:41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Mat 5:42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.” (ESV)
These verses of the Bible are to teach a new way of living. They focus on Jesus teaching to transform your heart and have love for all.
This not a command against self-defense or escape from abuse. This is a command not to seek personal revenge.
Unfortunately, even government leaders are seeking revenge on perceived enemies. A true christian would not seek retribution against another person.
How soon will it be before your neighbor turns you in for a reward because you said something that offended. Jesus teaching shows true christians that they must forgive and move on with their lives. Praise God!
